We experience pockets of dead time — roughly 15 minutes — sprinkled throughout our lives.

They’re most common in situations involving waiting, such as a friend running late, a slow grocery queue, or being stuck in traffic.

The usual compulsion is to whip out your phone and scroll your emails or social media. But we know that’s not the smartest thing to do.

Here are 10 things you can do instead. These are just some ideas to help you make the most of your time and avoid mindless scrolling.

Take this opportunity to have a break from technology and instead allow your mind and body to improve.

1. Go through your forgotten notes

Most people have virtual or physical notepads where they write things they want to do or should do. But life sometimes gets busy and some of the lower priority things can be forgotten.

Take some time to go through your notes and see if there’s anything you can act on now. You might find some personal goals or tasks that you forgot about.
