A few years ago when social media was growing at a rapid pace, I often heard that “Blogging is dead.”

You don’t hear that very often anymore. And that’s because blogging has matured and shown it’s a sustainable business model.

The credit goes to early bloggers who continued for years without earning much. The credit also goes to platforms like WordPress, Blogger, Medium, and Substack.

Because of these platforms, and the founders behind them, millions of writers can earn a living from anywhere in the world. Blogs have always been a way to share ideas and connect with readers, but they are now also a career.

Especially with the rise of Medium and Substack. While these platforms position themselves differently (Substack is for newsletters, and Medium is for blogging), they both help independent writers to monetize their content.

If you’re not sure which platform is right for you, let me share 3 lessons I’ve learned from blogging since 2015. I’ve also operated a private newsletter (not on Substack though).
