Use a ‘To Don’t List’ To Avoid Future Mistakes

By using my list of Don’ts, I can eliminate a lot of things in life.

As a frequent journaler, I often write about the things I want to do in life. But I also often write about the things I don’t want to do.

Writing this ‘To Don’t List’ gives me clarity.

Too many people are focused on what they should do to achieve their goals. But often, it’s what we don’t that helps us in making major life decisions.

  • Looking for a new job? What parts of your past job did you not like? List them down. And ensure your next job wouldn’t have them. Otherwise, you’ll end up miserable again.
  • Thinking of a marketing campaign for your business or freelance practice? What strategies have you tried that didn’t work? Discard them in your new campaign.
  • Trying to make more money? What are your non-negotiables? This helps you avoid chasing money mindlessly.
  • Entering a new relationship? Be sure you’re not chasing another person with the same red flags as the previous one!

I grew up in The Netherlands where the weather sucks 8 months out 12.

And as a teen, I always thought: “I want to live somewhere warm.”
